Welding Part 2: Stern Work

We hired BVI Marine Maintenance to come in and do the welding for us.  They are located right here in Nanny Cay so I brought the boat around to their dock - even backed her into the slip on my own!

Another shot of the brackets.  The T bars that are welded perpendicular to the wall will support the counter top and the T bars just above that are welded parallel to the wall will support the skins I need to hang on the stern.

The big moment.  We've been talking about cutting a hatch in the stern ever since we bought the boat in June 2012.  When the guys looked at me and said, okay we're ready to cut... I got nervous.  It's pretty counterintuitive to put holes in a boat, but a two and a half by three foot hole?!?  Craziness!

The guys cut the hole but left the corners intact.  Then, they welded on the last few bits of T bar inside.

Once the welds are cool it's time to get back to cutting.
Here's the first look out the stern hatch.
