I built out the helm at the end of last season, when I was tired and my work was getting a bit sloppy and uninspired. I took a good look at it a few days ago and decided I could do better. I decided to take apart my old helm and start from scratch. This is what I ended up with the second time around.
Beefy mahogany beams lend support and rigidity to the helm shelves and counter top. Since the throttle/ shifter is mounted on this portion of the helm it needs to be built a little more rugged.

The mahogany laminated counter top adds a little bit of warmth to the pilot house. I'm planning to extend the mahogany around to the port side where we will build a settee.
Sasha turned me loose with an exploded diagram of how the shifter/ throttle cables are supposed to connect to the bottom of the housing. After a half hour of tinkering and looking (unsuccessfully) for a YouTube tutorial I cried uncle and Sasha showed me how it's all supposed to go together.
